Large Hardened Thin-Wall Girth Gear Manufacturing | Up to 15m Diameter · Controlled Carburizing Defo
Girth gears are core transmission components of large rotary equipment such as ball mills, rotary kilns, and dryers. Sankuang Machinery provides girth gear manufacturing services with diameters up to 15 meters, specializing in hardened thin-wall gears characterized by large OD, thin wall, small module, large helix angle, non-standard pressure angle, and high dimensional accuracy requirements.
Key Technical Challenges & Solutions:
Deformation and expansion of large hardened thin-wall girth gears after carburizing and quenching differ significantly from conventional gears. Our solutions:
Pre-heat treatment of blanks: Additional preparatory heat treatment before carburizing to stabilize microstructure and reduce deformation
Custom gear hobs: Designed to control tooth surface allowance and root relief
Custom quenching fixtures: Heat treatment tooling specifically designed to control carburizing deformation
Uniform grinding allowance: Ensuring controllable deformation and uniform tooth surface allowance after grinding
Materials & Configurations:
Materials: Cast steel (ZG42CrMo, ZG40CrNiMo), forged alloy steel (42CrMo, 40CrNiMoA), ductile iron
Blank requires normalizing + tempering, cast hardness approx. 175HB
Configurations: Integrated, half-to-half, four-segment, multi-segment designs
Accuracy Standard: GB10095 (equivalent to ISO 1328).
Inspection Items: Chemical composition analysis, mechanical property testing, heat treatment curves, UT, MT, tooth surface hardness (3 points per 90°)
