Custom Industrial Rubber Covered Roller | Autoclave Vulcanization · PU/NBR/Silicone · 24-48h Curing

Rubber covered rollers consist of a metal core covered with high-performance elastomer through vulcanization, comprising an outer rubber layer, hard rubber layer, metal core, roll neck, and vent holes.

Key Process Steps:

1. Compound Mixing: Rubber content 25%-85%, hardness ±0–90 degrees. Mixed on open mills or internal mixers; filtered to remove impurities; calendered/extruded/fabricated into bubble-free sheets or strips.

2. Molding (Application): Rubber applied and covered on metal core; visual inspection and limited storage period after molding. Metal core requires sandblasting for bonding strength.

3. Vulcanization (Critical Step):

  • Large/medium rollers use autoclave vulcanization, primarily steam-heated

  • Slow temperature/pressure increase to prevent delamination from differential shrinkage between rubber and metal core

  • Large rollers require 24–48 hours in autoclave for uniform vulcanization, approximately 30–50 times normal rubber curing time

  • Hollow iron-core rollers use indirect steam vulcanization with 1–2x extended time

4. Surface Finishing: Grinding (mechanical turning and polishing) → final polishing → thorough dust removal. Roller surfaces must be free of impurities, pinholes, bubbles, scars, cracks, and other defects.

Custom Compounds:

  • NBR Rollers: Oil and wear-resistant, for printing, dyeing, petrochemical

  • PU Rollers: Ultra-high wear resistance, tensile strength 3x and wear resistance 5x natural rubber

  • Silicone Rollers: High/low temp resistance (-100℃ to 350℃), for plastic film coating, food packaging

  • NR Rollers: High elasticity, for conveying equipment
