Heavy-Duty Drum Gear Coupling – For Metallurgy, Mining & Crane Transport, Custom OEM
Drum gear couplings are particularly suitable for low-speed, heavy-load conditions and are widely used in metallurgy, mining, crane transport, petroleum, chemical, and general machinery shaft transmissions.
Core Design Feature:
Drum gear couplings feature crowned tooth design, allowing angular misalignment up to 6° between shafts, effectively compensating for installation errors and foundation settlement-induced shaft misalignment.
Manufacturing Methods:
Two main processing methods for drum gear couplings:
Tooth modification method: Gear blank rotates while moving forward/backward relative to the tool; hob feeds vertically
Envelope machining method: Gear blank only rotates; hob center moves in an arc to complete vertical and horizontal feeds — currently the more common method
Process Route:
Forged blank → normalizing → rough turning → semi-finish turning → gear hobbing (crowned tooth tooling) → carburizing + quenching → finish turning → gear grinding → tooth profile inspection (CMM/gear tester) → assembly → dynamic balancing → anti-rust packaging.
Accuracy: DIN Class 7 or better.
Material: 42CrMo or 45# carbon steel forgings, tooth surface carburized HRC 58-62, core HRC 30-35.
