Large Girth Gear for Mill & Rotary Kiln – Up to 15m Diameter, Controlled Carburizing Deformation

Girth gears (large ring gears) are core transmission components for ball mills, rotary kilns, dryers, and other large rotary equipment. Sankuang Machinery provides girth gear manufacturing services with diameters up to 15 meters.

Technical Challenges & Solutions:

Large girth gears are characterized by large outer diameter and thin walls. Deformation and expansion after carburizing and quenching differ significantly from conventional gears. Our technical solutions:

  1. Pre-heat treatment of blanks: Additional preparatory heat treatment before carburizing to stabilize microstructure and reduce deformation

  2. Custom gear hobs: Special hobs designed to control tooth surface allowance and root relief

  3. Custom quenching fixtures: Special heat treatment tooling to control carburizing deformation

  4. Multi-setup machining: Process planning based on machining deformation patterns for multi-setup and pre-stressed machining

  5. Minimum finish allowance: Ensuring minimum finish allowance for minimum deformation

Materials: Cast steel (ZG42CrMo, ZG40CrNiMo), forged alloy steel (42CrMo, 40CrNiMoA), ductile iron. Blank requires normalizing + tempering, cast hardness approx. 175HB.

Configurations: Integrated, half-to-half, four-segment, and multi-segment designs.

Accuracy Standard: GB10095 (equivalent to ISO 1328).

Inspection Items: Chemical composition analysis, mechanical property testing, heat treatment curves, UT, MT, tooth surface hardness (3 points per 90°).
